Magnitude 6.1 earthquake jolted Sarangani Island, Davao Occidental

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Davao Occidental's Sarangani Island on Sunday morning. The earthquake struck at 7:48 a.m., according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), 156 kilometers below the surface. Its epicenter was 336 km S 62° east of Sarangani Island in Davao Occidental, at 04.06°N, 128.15°E. The quake had a depth of 173 km and was tectonic in origin, according to PHIVOLCS. Intensity II was felt at Cateel, Davao Oriental, according to PHIVOLCS. There were no early reports of damage, but aftershocks are predicted, according to PHIVOLCS.
